I had the most serendipitous day this week. It was like being an unwilling cast extra in a Nature documentary. Actually, more like the blooper reel. It started off in an attempt to go meet Lucy & her family before they headed back for Texas. I met them in town but pretty soon a blinding migraine (sugar withdrawal) chased me unwillingly back home to bed. I was so sad & disappointed to miss out on being with them as time was ticking away but as I couldn't keep one eye entirely open without a wave of nausea making me almost throw up, I wasn't exactly a lot of fun. So I passed out a couple of hours then sat up and told Gaston I needed to go to the river if he could please help me with my boat. He said he would but was I sure, I should just lay down but for some reason I HAD to get out on the river so he helped me get it off the truck and drove away to run some errands. At first I felt very wary & almost fearful being left alone there, which I never do. Something didn't feel quite right but I got in the boat & headed out. Because of my sense of something foreboding or just not quite right plus still barely able to sit up I actually put my life jacket on as opposed to the usual hanging it on the back of my seat for the DNR's viewing pleasure. After a few minutes on the water, my headache starts to ease up & but am still feeling unusually nervous. I usually stay on calm flatwater but today the rapids looked appealing so I went into them a little ways. I almost flipped the kayak so I gave that up. When the sun went behind a cloud I decided to go check out the little "island" right across from where I put in to see if I can spot any wildlife, hoping to see the little otter I suspected might live there. As I get close to the bank there is a sudden rushing movement and then a humongous beaver plunges into the water heading straight for me. This was not Mr. or Mrs. Beaver from Narnia. This was a very unfriendly pissed off angry beaver. I start paddling the boat in the opposite direction as fast as I could then as I try to turn it around I get STUCK on a rock. The monster that was coming after me has disappeared completely under the water, I don't know if he is trying to go under the boat or worse into the boat. I knew a girl had been attacked by a rabid beaver on the Shenandoah not too long ago. So rationally I am thinking, "Shit. Gaston is gonna KILL me if I have to have $4,000 worth of rabies shots." I get the kayak moving again and head for shore, the beaver still has not resurfaced and now I gotta get out of the boat. Barefooted. My paddle is actually two pieces that snap together so I quickly break it in two in case I need to whack him up side the head. I scamper out of the kayak in record time. No beaver. As I am dragging my kayak up the ramp I slip and lose my grip on the boat and it goes sliding down the ramp and shoots out into the river. The current is strong and it is moving farther and farther out of my reach. This is probably the worst place as far as bottles, cans, glass & fish hooks. There are also big chunks of broken concrete under the water with big rusty metal spikes sticking out of them I have seen when the water is low. So I have to decide. Stay safe on the shore away from rusty metal spikes & the very aggressive beaver I can no longer see? Or... go in and get my boat...

How could you just stop there and leave us in suspense? What did you decide to do? What happened???
Oh no! Did you get your boat? Please tell me you did! I know how you love that boat.
Did you feet survive the bottom of the river when you retrieved your boat???

All kinda wrong to leave us hanging like that. You better post the finish or I will give you such a pinch!!!
That's just MEAN leaving us hanging like that!

What a perfect picture to go along with your adventure. It would almost lead me to believe he used your paddle to take your boat across before he chewed it up and used it to build his dam.
